Problems With a Piece of Poop Program

I am not excited to use this program considering it crashed just trying to create a freehand line, whereas the last piece I made took hours and Medibang Paint didn't crash even once. I'll try to withhold my judgment, but it just looks... outdated. It feels outdated too. I'll keep you posted.

No matter what I try it won't let me make rectangles???? Or even an ellipse??????????? WHAT THE HECK (I'm using much stronger words in my brain, trust me. I have to keep this PG though.) I'm following the tutorial... it's just NOT WORKING. I'm clicking. I'm dragging. I don't know why I can't make a bloody shape. I'm getting more and more frustrated with this program as I use it.

Still trying to make shapes with the exact instructions that have been given. Still not getting anything. WHAT AM I DOING WRONG???? I even tried it on a blank canvas instead of the tutorial page and still. NOTHING. I've tried clicking and dragging. I've tried clicking. I've tried shift clicking. I'VE TRIED EVERYTHING.

Good news. I got the calligraphy tool to work. No shapes though. Really frustrated. 

I present to you "I hate inkscape.png" wasn't even worth saving as a png. Can this be what I turn in as my weekly assignment?

LITERALLY RIGHT AFTER TYPING AND PUTTING THAT ^ PICTURE THERE THE SHAPES ARE WORKING AND I DIDN'T DO ANYTHING DIFFERENTLY. WHAT THE HECK?????!!!!! UGGGHGHGHHGLSJTOLIROQRDOIHIFUHSIFJ. Okay. I'm going to try to actually do the assignment now that this stupid program is finally working for me. 

I think I did something with the color somehow because the shapes are coming in just filled with black??? OH I CAN FILL THEM but it says they'll default be blue with a black border, but they're just black... I think that might have been my fault in my desperate attempt to try to get them to show up at all.

The zooming, scrolling and panning tools were also not working, but miraculously the Inkscape God decided to have mercy on my soul and have things work now...

EVERYTHING THAT WASN'T WORKING IS SUDDENLY WORKING. I don't know if I should be happy that they're working or mad that they weren't working and suddenly out of HECKING NOWHERE they all are randomly working.

As soon as I get the shapes to work, the brushes don't work. Is there a hecking toggle between brushes and shapes or something??? That's HECKING stupid.

Nothing is working again. I don't want to USE THIS STUPID PROGRAM ANYMORE. I COULD BE DOING PRODUCTIVE WORK IN MEDIBANG OR EVEN MICROSOFT HECKING PAINT BUT HERE I AM JUST TRYING TO GET THIS PROGRAM TO EVEN WORK. OH MY HECKING GOSH. I WANT TO USE EXPLICIT LANGUAGE SO BAD RIGHT NOW.

I'm calm, the program is working semi-well, I hope that notion stays that way. Not a big fan of the limited color pallet that's immediately available to you. Like I said, it's very, very limited. I also dislike how you can't change colors if you just filled something in and you don't click on anything else. Like, the heck??

Oh I see, there's a color picker picker. You can pick where you pick from. How intuitive (obvious sarcasm is obvious. It even says the wheel is the best one. Why is that not the default??)

Another thing I notice is that this program is laggy as heck. Not even Microsoft Paint lags this bad and if Microsoft paint is better than something I'm using in any way, I'll be a little skeptical of it's quality.

When I press F1 it doesn't change to the gradient tool. That's nice. I'm almost ready to throw in the towel and turn in this piece of garbage that I'd call making random shapes and doing random things to them than making a digital art piece.

It's working consistently how it's supposed to now, so that's good. But I have to say, using this program is just... boring... regardless of how well it works (I'd give it a generous 6/10) it just feels like I'm using a better version of Microsoft Paint... It's just so bland. It doesn't feel like art.

I had to go somewhere and I was planning on working on the assignment later, but the program is completely unresponsive. It's not even giving the "Inkscape has stopped working" pop up. It's just completely unresponsive and I don't even want to deal with it. I have to get this assignment (I refuse to call it a "project" or "piece") done before tomorrow at 3:00 and I'm SUPER busy tomorrow so I guess I have to deal with this piece of poop program for an eternity longer.

Can someone please put this program out of its misery?? I feel like it just constantly wants to not work. It's still completely unresponsive and still not popping up with a crash pop up. I can't save it, so that's a straight up slap in the face. I saved it before I left though so I don't have to go and scream. So yeah, I'm going to go restart the program and hope for the best?

Random Grayscale Girl I Guess?

So I'm somewhat conflicted with this piece. I'm happy with it but it's kind of boring. I want to add color to it but I don't want to go and color it and take that time if it is going to look better in just grayscale. So I'm going to leave it to the comments. If someone wants me to color it, I'll go ahead and color it. If I end up wanting to color it, I'll probably color it. Another thing about this piece is that it's not fan art. I haven't done anything that's not fan art in a while. Well, except for the snake one. So it's not fan art, but I would not call it an OC. It's not a character, it's just a random girl. I did not build this around a character. So yeah, just a random girl. I guess I just wanted to mess around with drawing while not having to slave over it being accurate to the original reference, which I would have done if it was fan art.

For Mrs. Girot: I made this in Medibang Paint, so this is not my weekly assignment.

Snooty Booty Snakes with Boring Bio Lesson that Includes Cats?

*air horns* another one this WEEEEEEEK!!!

So this is a little snooty booty! He a ball python and he is just natural colors. One thing about me some people don't know is that I LOVE snakes. I LOVE THEM THEY'RE SO ADORABLE. Don't boop their hecking snoots. Seriously though, unless your little snake is really accustomed to touch, snoot booping is stressful for them, and ball pythons are really stressed out animals. They're called ball pythons because they roll up into a ball when they're stressed! If they're stressed they won't eat, which is one of the main problems snake owners have with ball pythons. I don't have one, because I want to educate myself as much as possible before I get one, and I encourage you to do the same if you plan on getting one.

Fun fact: snakes and cats smell things in a similar way!! They both have the vomeronasal organ, also known as the Jacobson's organ. From what I know is that the Jacobson's organ is above the roof of both their mouths. With cats, they can use their nose to smell, but sometimes they'll open their mouth to breathe through so they can get more information or detect non-volatile chemical cues. Snakes will use their tongues to "gather the scents". This explanation is grossly oversimplifying the concept, but I only have what I can understand from Wikipedia and what I know already. Do some research on it. Not right now, it's Friday. Enough learning for this week. NO MORE LEARNING. Erase everything you just read from your mind and forget that you learned anything. Got it? Okay.

75 days later... It's done. It's done. I hope I can crank at least one blog post out a week.

So yesterday I worked myself from when I woke up to when I went to bed, so I'm just taking it easy today. Because of that, I got to work on my art for a good amount of time, but I also passed out and slept through my alarm for Art. Very saddening, but at least I made it to English at 1:00 and my other classes in the day. I want to work on my blog layout, but I'm really tired so I dunno. ¯\_(ツ)_/¯ I also really like this font? It's rad. I dunno. I'm just vomiting word nonsense because I'm super tired. Um. I think that's all. My cats have been following me around all day and just rubbing against me and it's super cute so that's cool. 

So should I like, scan my traditional art from elementary? I have some decent stuff in there, but I dunno. I dunno ¯\_(ツ)_/¯  I'm just going to do it anyway I guess? So like, here they are. I took pictures of them for a friend so I just have them available.

 I dunno what this is and apparently I didn't care about it enough to finish I guess?

 I drew a lot of girls apparently? ( ͡° ͜ʖ ͡°) (OH GOD THE LENNY FACE DOESN'T LIKE THIS FONT BUT WE'RE KEEPING IT) This one is a vampire or something. She has blood on chin and she doesn't seem to be bothered by it so I'm assuming it's she's a vampire.

(Watercolors (with surprising pigment I might add. I really like the contrast of hair and skin in this one) this was either on multi media or watercolor paper)

 I wanted to draw an actually scary boo from Mario, but I never finished it. Maybe I'll come back to it along with the other hundreds of unfinished projects I have.

I dunno. I did this with a stencil I made and I like how it looks. It's the only drawing I've ever really done like this so yeah. Again my parents liked it enough to frame it. 

(I think this was actually just on 100 pound (maybe less) sketch paper. I used acrylics and a homemade stencil made out of printer paper)

Introduction

     Hi! I'm Dan Fenn, a beginning artist with a lot of ideas. Online you may know me as "BlurryGrawlix", for that is my username for most things. I mainly do digital drawing, but I also do traditional art if I'm in the mood for it. For traditional art, I mostly do acrylic painting and pencil drawings (black and white, because colored pencils are too expensive D:< ) and sometimes even watercolor! I'm working every day to try to improve my art and follow my passion. 

     I guess I'll tell you about myself... I'm 14 years old. My username comes from my love of Twenty One Pilots and my compulsive habit of swearing and having to censor myself. (If you can't put it together, Twenty One Pilots' singer has an alter ego called Blurryface that you can look up because I don't want to explain it and "grawlix" is the word for the list of symbols that are used for censoring things. I.E. "That son of a #@%&*!") I have two cats and one dog and they're all my best friends. I'm super awkward and I prefer to be alone. I want to pursue psychiatric studies in the future. I like video games. Geez, if it weren't for art, I'd be super boring. I'm running out of things to tell about myself. Uh, mY fAVOriTe ColOr iS bLUE! (Oh geez, that didn't go well >.>)

     I have a lot of ideas for art. In the future I want to do a lot of fan art and also a lot of "original character" drawings. I have some ideas for symbolism in my life that has a specific meaning and interpretation for me, but I will leave up to the viewer to decide their interpretation. The relationship held between the artist and the viewer is very strange. The artist creates something with their own intentions, but the viewer takes it however they want to. The viewer can latch onto these meanings and interpretations and help them feel like someone understands what their going through, even though no one really understands exactly what they're going through. The artist and the viewer may have the same pains, but not one situation could be exactly the same. Pain is perceived and received and dealt with differently for everyone, but the pain might be a little less if you have someone to go through it with you, in this case, the artist. 

     Woah Dan, hold your horses, YOU'RE NOT A PHILOSOPHER. Heh, I have my thoughts but I just can't put them together very well, going from thought to thought without thought. Connecting thoughts that have no connection. Okay. Stop typing, Dan. Okay. Back on track. Like I mentioned before, my passion right now is art. This may seem weird, but romanticizing death also comes naturally to me, which I occasionally put into my art. So uh, since I've been all over the place trying to string my thoughts together, how about I show you some of my art? (These are all out of order from when I did them so bear with me)

This was kind of a joke-y drawing, but I still like how it turned out.

This is pretty recent, but I only put, like, 60%ish effort into it because my computer crashed and I lost a lot of progress and my favorite villager in Animal Crossing moved away so I wasn't emotionally committed to this drawing like the other ones.

This one was done a day after the other traditional art piece on this little list, but I did some digital touch ups and even a watermark signature thingamabob.

There's a date on this one(!) so you know the exact day that I did it!

This one was one of the first ones I did, taking inspiration from Mulan (for the character) and "Black Butler"'s (favorite anime!!!) Ran Mao (for some of the style, mostly the style of the eyes. I'm just noticing that both characters are the same ethnicity and I'm surprised I didn't notice before. I'm a little slow sometimes.)

     This is just the artwork I've done digitally/happen to have on my computer, so the portfolio is a little small. Maybe I'll add some of my traditional art from, like, elementary school? I don't know, I had a pretty good (unfinished) realistic drawing of John Lennon from sixth grade. *Shrugs* I guess we'll have to wait and see...
